Outline:

Introduction of the POC project

General introduction

Goals of POC:

-develop a structured vocabulary for plant anatomical entities and plant growth and developmental stages (the PO)

-develop an infrastructure to support plant comparative genomics (PO plus associations)

-community outreach to encourage contributions of annotations for more species (web-based annotation tool)

Changes to the PO in the past year

Expansion to include all plants:

-more general definitions of upper-level terms

-new taxon-specific terms

New upper-level structure for PSO

Progress toward Obo-Foundry compliance:

-complete "is_a" hierarchy

-standardized definitions in genus-differentia form

-compliance with Basic Formal Ontology structure

Overview of the POC website

-keep it brief

-Plans to update webpage?

Using the ontology browser

-searching

-browsing

-accessing annotations

-upcoming: links to images through PlantSystematics.org

Requesting new terms

-link to SVN through PO homepage

-register and sign in before submitting!

-how to view old tracker items
